Circa 1890 Washburn model 1897
What do you buy for the woman who has everything? If you are a gentleman in the 1890s looking to buy something wonderful for your wife for her birthday (and she's already got all the jewelry) you might have chosen this lovely little trinket. The guitar is from the 1890s, built by Washburn. Like virtually every quality instrument of the period it has brazilian rosewood back and sides with a spruce top. The fretboard is entirely veneered in pearl with engraved designs at the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 12th and 15th frets. The guitar has a pearl bordered top with bold red, green and white purfling bordering the pearl. The rosette is abalone with pearl 'blocks' inlaid into the pearl for contrast. The bridge is a "Durkee's Patent" duck-foot bridge and the tuners have gold plating, engraving and Handel pearl inlaid ivoroid buttons. Very rare and very cool
