1970 Brazilian rosewood Martin D-28
This is an interesting guitar. While it is widely known that Martin switched to indian rosewood in 1969 on all rosewood models there are some early 70s guitars that post-date this switch that are entirely brazilian rosewood. Many D-35s from this period are seen to have brazilian rosewood in the center wedge of the back with indian rosewood sides and outer panels but this D-28 has brazilian back and sides, no indian invovled. I acquired this guitar from an Albany area dealer a few years back, at the time of the photos it was (and may still be but I don't know, as it's got a new home now) crack free and as near mint as a guitar can be. In the years that I've been dealing with vintage guitars I've seen a few other early 70s brazilian rosewood guitars including other D-28s, one 000-28, and a custom 00-21 which is pictured elsewhere in this gallery.
